CEO of MicroWISE, a company developing equipment for accurately measuring living organisms in water-samples. While steering the course of MicroWISE, she draws on her extensive experience with both research and industry. During the past 10 years preventing the spread of marine invasive species has been to focal point of interest, and has entailed development and maturation of a test system for detection of live organisms in ballast water (BallastWISE). Alongside this work Pia was the Implementing Officer for non-shipping activities in the IMO GloFouling project for the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC). In her earlier career she was involved in sea ice and marine pelagic food web research projects, and has worked with optimization of microbial processes in wastewater treatment plants. Pia holds a PhD in marine microbial ecology.
