IMO’s 2023 revised strategy sets the sector’s energy transition inevitably in motion. Just like the energy and automotive sectors that are ‘ahead’ shipping’s transition can be expected to be equally turbulent and disruptive to the current status quo. Incumbent ‘big names’ carry some of the highest risks, and disruptive new, new entrants, perhaps from other sectors, have the potential to grow fast and use agility or transferable assets/skills to gain market share in an industry used to status quo.
