Jake was raised in Porlock, West Somerset where he joined 1^st Watchet Sea Scouts RN 63 piquing his interest in the Royal Navy and subsequently assisting in his attendance at Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College before reading BEng Marine Technology with Honours in Small Craft Design at Newcastle University.

His Naval training has included Common Fleet Time onboard HMS Severn conducting operations within UK waters and Specialist Fleet Time onboard HMS Richmond conducting Westlant 22 and HMS Kent in Anti-Submarine operations. On completion of his Marine Engineering Qualification in July 2023 he has been appointed to SURFLOT conducting the MEGS Operating Model Implementation and development to improve the lived experience of Marine Engineers in front line units.

He enjoys sailing, both dinghy sailing and the maintenance of his own 19 foot day-sailor, and is a goalkeeper in field hockey.
