Winners of the IMarEST Awards 2018/19

The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology has a number of awards that those in the industry can apply or be nominated for. The winners for various awards for 2018 are listed below. Winners of the Denny Medal, IMarEST Outstanding Contribution Award and Royal Navy Operational Award were presented with their prizes at the Institute's 116th Annual Dinner.

Denny Medals

The prestigious Denny Medal, established in 1893, is awarded to the best paper published in one of the IMarEST’s peer-reviewed journals.

Increasing energy efficiency in passenger ships by novel energy conservation measures (Journal of Marine Engineering and Technology)

IMarEST Outstanding Student Achievement Award

This is awarded to a student on one of the IMarEST’s higher education programmes, delivered by its learning arm, MLA College.

Laurie Prandolini Research Fellowship

The Laurie Prandolini Research Fellowship provides an annual grant, for up to two years, to a Doctoral candidate or post-Doctoral researcher in a marine discipline i.e. marine engineering, marine science or marine technology.

PhD Mitigating uncertainty in hydrodynamic modelling of wave energy converters

Stanley Gray Fellowship

Stanley Gray Fellowships are awarded to students judged to be of outstanding potential to enable a significant piece of work to be undertaken in an approved marine engineering/science/technology subject to Doctorate (PhD) or post-Doctorate level.

David Henderson Inspiring Journey Grant

The David Henderson Inspiring Journey Grant is a £5,000 grant awarded to the best idea for an exciting and exceptional journey which will be documented - through blogs and social media - and will inspire the public to think about the oceans differently and ensure we use them safely and sustainably.

Sir Donald Gosling Award

IMarEST bursaries are awarded to undergraduates, postgraduates, cadets and apprentices studying or working on a marine-related topic. They aim to encourage and support IMarEST Student members in their work on technical research projects or community-based projects.

John Blackburn Main Undergraduate Award

The John Blackburn Main Award supports students at the University of Strathclyde to gain practical experience in another country. John Blackburn Main was a Fellow of the Institute and former director of Shell Marine International, and this fund was set up through a generous donation from his family in 2007.
