Captain Daniele Badalucco

Head of HSEQ , Interorient Shipmanagement

A certified Master Mariner and Health, Safety and Environmental professional with extensive experience in ship management and various management systems.  He served at sea for 11 years, mainly on tanker vessels.  

In 1999, Daniele started his shore career and since then he has worked for various shipping companies based in different countries, including Monaco, Singapore, Qatar and Cyprus.  

Since 2005 holding various HSEQ managerial positions and functions, including HSEQ & Marine Manager, DPA and CSO.

Over the last 25 years, Daniele has built a solid background in developing, executing, improving and leading HSEQ management systems with multinational teams. His working history demonstrates robust experience in risk and emergency management, incident investigations and audits.

He is active member of Nautical Institute (AFNI), Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (Tech IOSH), Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (FIMarEST) and American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).

Kevin Daffey FIMarEST

Senior Vice President, Mobile Automation & Electrical, Rolls-Royce Solutions

Kevin Daffey is responsible for Rolls-Royce Solutions Mobile Automation & Electrical leading a global team of over 150 engineers to deliver Automation, Electrical and Autonomous systems for Marine, Naval, Rail and Mining sectors.  Kevin is a seasoned leader with over two decades of experience in the marine industry, fostering innovation and efficiency. In 2020 he successfully oversaw the acquisition and integration of Servowatch Systems Ltd into RR Power Systems, strengthening Rolls-Royce’s marine automation capability. As a key member of Rolls-Royce Marine Executive Management team, Kevin, as Engineering & Technology Director at Royce-Royce Marine, also delivered £120 million in Product Development in power, propulsion, deck machinery, automation, electrical and autonomous technologies over three years, further solidifying his expertise in the sector.  Kevin's extensive experience extends to the UK Ministry of Defence, where he served for three years as a Subject Matter Expert for electrical and software systems and was a trusted advisor into UK Surface ship and submarine programs, with roles in the supply chain, MOD Naval Authority, and leading independent design and technical reviews.

In 2020, Kevin Daffey became the 118th President of the Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST), representing 19,000 Marine Engineers and Scientists.  In 2022 Kevin became Chair of the IMarEST Board of Trustees, He has presented to the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) and UK Parliamentary Committees on Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship, contributing significantly to discussions in the maritime and engineering spheres.  In 2022, Kevin was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering for his major contributions in electric propulsion, dynamic positioning, autonomous shipping and electrical safety.

Professor Ibrahim Fahmy Abdelaty FImarEST, CEng, CMarEng

Visiting Professor, NAOME - University of Strathclyde

Visiting Professor at NAOME Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering Department, University of Strathclyde. Industry Leader in Offshore, Subsea and Marine with 24 years of experience covered several senior roles including Technical, Business, advisory and Management levels. Editorial board Member of JPT Magazine Journal of Petroleum Technology. Expert in developing the integration partnership of Industry-academia and professional Bodies. Served in the IPTC award committee 2014-2024.E Executive committee member at Offshore Europe 2023. Chair/Speaker 100 technical & panel sessions organized by SPE and other Offshore/Subsea/Marine bodies in the last 10 years. Conducted End Point Assessment for Nos. 70 Engineers at different levels in the UK. Global Talent by Royal Academy of Engineering RAE. Fellow, CMarEng and accreditation assessor by IMarEST Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology. Chartered Engineer CEng by UKEC.

Stuart Henderson CBE, FIMarEST

Head of Maritime and Nuclear, SQEP Limited

Stuart Henderson joined the Royal Navy aged 18 as a Marine Engineer, completing an in-Service degree in Marine Engineering and qualifying in steam propulsion in HMS JUNO.  His early sea career included HMS LONDON in the 1991 Gulf conflict, HMS ARK ROYAL in the Northern Atlantic, and HMS BOXER in the Far East and the Adriatic.  He was Marine Engineer of HMS SOUTHAMPTON, mostly spent in the Middle East in the aftermath of 9/11.

Ashore, he was a leadership instructor before a master’s degree in marine engineering, specialising in Electrical Power Systems, at University College London; then worked on electrical machine development in the Navy Support Command, a forerunner of the DE&S, in Bath.  After more time on operations, at sea and ashore, he had 3 wonderful years bringing the last Type 45 destroyer, HMS DUNCAN, out of build in Scotstoun, Glasgow. 

His later Navy career included capability management and finance in the Ministry of Defence HQ, personnel management, and joint operations.  He left the Navy in 2023 after over 4 years as the Navy Safety Director and was appointed CBE last year.  He is currently the Head of Maritime and Nuclear at SQEP Limited.

He is a keen sailor and Mountain Leader, having recently completed all 282 mountains in Scotland over 3000 feet.  A Freeman of the City of Glasgow and Fellow of the IMarEST, he chaired the International Naval Engineering Conference in 2020 and 2022.      

Nick Potter

Senior Industry Advisor

Nick is a fellow of IMarEST and a fellow of the institute of chartered shipbrokers. He obtained an honours degree in mechanical and marine engineering and a masters degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering following a short seagoing career. Nick is immediate past Chairman of the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) and until recently head of Shell’s shipping and maritime organisation in APME. Nick has sat on several international advisory panels on maritime decarbonisation and recently co-chaired an international advisory panel that developed on the future of maritime talent.
