Project Officer, Association of Polar Early Career Scientists

Lisa is a marine geoscientist, now working in project management in the research environment. Since she experienced the Arctic Regions herself, most recently as a media coordinator during the MOSAiC expedition, she has been inspired and enthusiastic about its uniqueness and beauty, motivating her for raising awareness for its vulnerability and protection.

As a young person in science she found home in the field of young researcher engagement, science communication and knowledge transfer. She is always impressed by the high motivation and enthusiasm of you - young researchers! With APECS she wants to support them and give opportunities to raise and to integrate them into the broader polar community.

Already 2018-2020, she was Project Officer in the APECS International Directorate and did now return to the APECS Office, being engaged in the EU project Arctic PASSION. Besides the project-based work aiming to communicate the project topics and results to young audiences and stakeholders, she will support administrational directorate tasks.

Additionally, Lisa is affiliated with the German Arctic Office, an AWI unit to promote knowledge transfer from science into politics.

Axel Schlindwein

Directorate Officer, APECS International Directorate

Axel is a computer engineer by training with a passion to develop accessible tools for scientific and educational use to advance scientific literacy and enable innovative scientific approaches while further improving collaborative practices in the polar research community. In 2019, Axel has founded and since led a non-profit organization developing educational laboratory equipment with the aim to encourage inquiry-based learning by providing students with opportunities to experience authentic science in and outside their classroom. He joined APECS in March 2023 as Directorate Officer to support the APECS International Directorate in managing the APECS network and its administrative processes, facilitating member-driven activities and contributing to collaborative projects within the organisation and its partners. As part of the POLARIN project that started in 2024, Axel is contributing to training material and activities on the safe and efficient use of polar research infrastructure by early career scientists.
