Abstract There is no single fire-fighting system that covers everything or ideal for all types of vessels. The choice of system is dependant of cargo, size of machinery space / cargo holds, regulations and ease of getting service / re-supply of fire-fighting medium. Safety in Shipping industry is very regulated, and it is important to understand the types of fixed fire-fighting system characteristics and applicable service / inspection / maintenance requirement as per IMO MSC Circulars. The presentation will entail the type of fixed fire-fighting systems on board various type of cargo vessel covering machinery areas, deck and cargo holds/tanks. Some of the key questions that will be covered include: • What kind of systems will appear on various cargo vessels such as Product Tanker, Chemical Tanker, LPG/LNG Tanker, Container, Bulk Carrier? • Which MSC Circular will require Fire-fighting systems to follow? • How service intervals are to be observe based on various Fire-fighting systems?
