ORSIG responds to public consultation on marine energy
The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy ran a call for evidence inviting comments on on the scope for innovative marine energy technologies across Great Britain, including floating offshore wind and wave and tidal energy. The Offshore Renewables Special Interest Group submitted their views to this public consultation, considering issues relating to potential for development of the marine energy sector, the path to commercialization, cost reduction, and environmental considerations.
Today, the UK marine energy supply chain is world leading and there is clear development potential for marine renewables, especially where there can be cross-industry and cross-technology applications which will in turn support global export potential. As a global focus looks to a sustainable recovery in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic there is growing interest in marine resources which must be considered in an environmental context. The ORSIG collated input for this consultation supporting our goals to provide technical leadership and share knowledge.
