New membership rate will help seafarers set their sights on the future

We’ve launched a new membership rate to help those employed at sea to fast track their careers. Seafarers can now enjoy a 25% discount to improve access to professional development and registration, as well as other important membership benefits.

The rate was designed to recognise that seafarers have fewer opportunities to access online resources (because of limited connectivity at sea) and find it harder to attend in-person branch meetings.

IMarEST members already enjoy heavily discounted rates in their first five years of employment, so the new Seafarer Rate will kick in once the Early Career Rate expires. It will allow seafarers to continue to maximise their career prospects and will be supported by a new career pathway for those working at sea, due to launch in 2025.

To make membership even more affordable, there are also different prices depending on the home country of the seafarer.

Alongside the Seafarer Rate, the IMarEST is also introducing an online Seafarer’s Network to promote discussion of industry issues. Importantly, the new forum will also allow members to help shape IMarEST initiatives and ensure they get the most from their memberships.

Susan Foster, Membership and Professional Services Director at the IMarEST, said: “We’re delighted to give back to our wonderful seafarer community by announcing a special membership rate. I hope this exciting new initiative will help us to welcome new members to our thriving marine community.”

The IMarEST is the largest marine organisation of its kind and the first to bring together over 12,500 marine engineers, scientists and technologists into one international multi-disciplinary professional body. Membership is open to all, including students and cadets, experienced professionals, and others with an interest in the area.

A dedicated application hub for the seafarer community is available on the IMarEST website.
