Roy de Winter
Data Scientist, Delft University of Technology
Dr. Roy de Winter is a data scientist at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He joined the Maritime and Transport Technology department in 2024 after completing his Ph.D. at the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science, Leiden, The Netherlands. His Ph.D. research mainly focussed on developing optimization algorithms for computationally expensive optimization problems for which he received the G. Rosenberg Research Award. Besides his work as a Ph.D. candidate, de Winter was also employed as a Research and Development Engineering at C-Job Naval Architects where he directly applied the innovative optimization algorithms and other computer science-related techniques in practice. This combination resulted in practical and radical advancements in the state of the art optimization algorithms and numerous interesting ship design optimization studies which are published in over 20 research articles in international conferences and journals.
