iSCSS 2020 - Surfing the digital transformation
The International Ship Control Systems Symposium aims promote knowledge sharing and collaboration in ship control systems concepts, design, operation and support, and provide a professional forum for commercial marine, industry, government, academia and naval engineering communities.
The virtual INEC / ISCSS 2020 conference took place 5 – 9 October and consisted of a series of mixed-format livestreamed sessions (panel discussions, presentations) led by authors and leading figures from the naval engineering and ship control systems communities, facilitated by the use of an event app which provided participants with the opportunity to access all content, including the full conference proceedings and exhibitor information, as well as network with other virtual delegates.
Although the change to a virtual format was made primarily in response to COVID-19 pandemic, it has opened up new opportunities for greater reach and engagement. This online format allow a greater number international delegates, who would be unable to travel to the conference and attend in person, to fully take part in proceedings and bring an even greater global voice to the event.

History of the Ship Control Symposium
The Ship Control Systems Symposium was an initiative started by the government defence departments in Canada, The Netherlands, UK and USA with the objective to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration between member nations in ship control systems concepts, design, operation and support as well as to provide a professional and public forum for commercial marine, industry, government, academia and naval engineering communities. The symposia series was organised 14 times rotating between the four nations from 1966 until 2009.
In 2018, it was relaunched as the International Ship Control Systems Symposium (iSCSS) and held alongside INEC 2018, focussing on the rapid development of new revolutionary technologies and the impact on future control system strategies for both naval vessels and commercial ships.
Full paper submission process
Accepted authors, following the earlier Call for Abstracts for INEC & iSCSS, are now requested to submit their full papers through EasyChair by Monday 18 May 2020.
- Please download and refer to the step-by-step guide (PDF) of how to log in to EasyChair to update your information and upload your full paper when ready.
