IMarEST steps up CPD recognition of training courses
Greater numbers of companies, academic institutions and specialist organisations from across the breadth of the marine sector are turning to the IMarEST to provide an independent assessment of their training courses to demonstrate that they can contribute to an individual’s continuing professional development (CPD).
In early 2021, the IMarEST recognised 14 courses from the Business College of Athens (BCA) and the Maritime Training Academy (MTA).
BCA submitted seven courses for CPD recognition, included topics on commercial shipping, maritime policy and regulations. With over 1,000 students and more than 9,000 alumni, BCA Group is one of the largest educational institutions in Greece, offering bachelor's and master's degrees based on thousands of years of experience in maritime training.
BCA Director of Maritime Studies, Apostolos Poulovassilis commented: “We are very pleased to have received IMarEST CPD status for our professional diploma programs. This CPD award is of paramount importance to us as a recognition of our continued commitment to professional skills development in the maritime industry. We are extremely honoured to be partnering with the IMarEST as our two organisations share common strategic objectives for the promotion of a culture of continuous learning and development through technical leadership in the shipping sector.”
Maritime Training Academy (MTA) have renewed their relationship with the IMarEST by re-recognising seven of their online training courses ranging from marine pilotage to superyacht surveying. MTA offers distance-learning diplomas with course content continually updated by a large cohort of maritime authors to ensure a range of expertise for students. Assessors were “very impressed with the extremely detailed handbook for all the courses offered as it includes specifics on mental health, wellbeing and relevant support in study groups while taking the course(s)”.
Andrea Hill, MTA Student Liaison and Publications Team Leader, said: “The Maritime Training Academy are delighted to have received CPD recognition from such a well-respected and internationally recognised organisation as the IMarEST. This accolade confirms to prospective students that MTA commits to producing courses of a high standard that can benefit those in the global maritime community in their search for knowledge and learning. ‘What you learn in life stays with you’.”
Independent recognition by the IMarEST assures students and, in many cases, mid-career professionals wanting to develop their skills further that programmes have been evaluated by an impartial third party and shown to meet the standards required to keep you developing in your career. Gaining CPD recognition from the IMarEST provides companies and other organisations a relatively straightforward way of enhancing their reputation and demonstrating their commitment to quality.
