IMarEST launches superyacht special interest group
With the superyacht industry having doubled in the last decade, we are excited to launch a superyacht special interest group (SIG). The group, which was launched at the recent Palma Superyacht Show, will focus on the specialist needs of the superyacht sector which employs between 148,000 to 163,000 people worldwide.
Larry Rumbol MIMarEST MIPowerE, chair of the new group says: “This is a sector where many superyachts operate in isolation in a fleet of one, and many could be called prototypes. Both of these elements bring positive and negative challenges and those working on them can be faced with problems and issues that are unusual, unexpected, and outside of personal experience. Our network is a space where these professionals can meet to share knowledge and insight on technical topics of interest. We will also be collaborating with the IMarEST’s other marine related SIGs on common wider challenges from professional development to environmental issues.”
The group will be run by a committee made up of stakeholders from relevant sectors of the industry, each with a network of colleagues from many years of experience with superyachts.
