The decarbonisation of islands and island nations is a crucial step in achieving their climate change policies and promoting sustainable development. These regions often face unique challenges due to their geographical isolation, limited resources, and vulnerability to climate impacts.

This talk will give an overview of the process of the development of subsea power cables from planning, design and installation to operation and maintenance to allow access to and distribution of renewable/clean energy sources. Examples will include Intertek’s involvement in the development and operation of the existing subsea power cable interconnector between the Isle of Man and England.
