Egypt Student Section runs summer camp for 100 school students
From the 4-7th of August 2024, 100 school-aged students attended a Summer Camp from 20 different schools across Egypt, organised and hosted by the IMarEST Egypt Student Section. The section is comprised of IMarEST Student Members from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
The Egypt Student Section members worked to organise the whole camp, preparing the materials that were used to provide the students with the basics of boat design. With guidance from the section members, the students learnt to construct and control the boats.
This is the second year that the Egypt Student Section has organised Summer Camps for students aged 12-18. The section also provides school-aged students with the opportunity to join their RoboPirates team, a competition which is also organised by the section.
Speaking about the importance of providing school-aged students with these opportunities Miral Michel, Chair of the Egypt Student Section, says “The maritime industry is crucial for global trade. By exposing children to these fields early, we can cultivate a skilled graduate prepared to address the complex challenges of the future. The maritime sector also offers a wide range of career paths thus early exposure helps students understand the variety of roles available, allowing them to make informed decisions about their future education and career paths. This awareness can spark interest in students who may not have considered these fields otherwise.”
The Egypt Student Section is currently working on the Marine and Offshore Assembly, a gathering of industry professionals in the marine and offshore sectors to discuss challenges found within the industry and how can the department students research such points and provide feasible solutions to the industry.
