The European Commission is running a targeted consultation on International Ocean Governance. This consultation aims to assess development needs and options for the EU’s international ocean governance agenda. In particular, the consultation aims to identify opportunities for targeted action in light of today’s challenges in international ocean governance to deliver the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and in particular the UN SDGs. You can find more details about the consultation here.
Stakeholders within and beyond Europe including public authorities, international organisations, NGOs, financial institutions, academic, scientific, social and economic partners are encouraged to participate. Feedback is focussed on 4 key areas including; Scope and objectives of the International Ocean Governance Agenda; Strengthening the International Ocean Governance framework; Reducing pressure on the ocean and seas and creating the conditions for a sustainable blue economy; Strengthening international ocean science, research, data and knowledge systems. You can look at the survey questions on the consultation website.
We would like to put together an IMarEST response to this consultation and invite comments from our members on any of these topics by email to [email protected]. Please take a look at the survey questions and email us your comments by 1 October 2020.
