The Marine Electrical Special Interest Group (SIG) has been born out of the former Marine Electrical Control System Safety SIG (MECSS). MECSS successfully ran for ten years during which time, through it's work and conferences, it successfully raised awareness of the issues surrounding electrical safety issues on ships.
As electrification on ships continues to grow, the new group will continue this work. It will look at such issues as the use of batteries on board and the associated potential fire hazards, electrical distribution, system complexity, integrated and non-integrated systems, electrical to digital connections, as well as general electrical safety.
Joining the group will provide you with the opportunity to participate in discussions relating to the development of current and future standards, helping to develop future training and CPD courses to attract more people into the marine electrical engineering sector. This group is also aiming to work with Branch committees across the globe.
If you are interested in joining, sign into the My IMarEST member portal and select the group from the list. If you would like to be part of the committee for the SIG, please email [email protected].
