Office closures - December 2024

Season’s greetings from everybody at the IMarEST.

Our staff are taking some well-deserved time off, so our offices will be closed for the festive period from Wednesday 25th December to Wednesday 1st January inclusive.

During this time, staff will be unable to provide any support. Don’t forget you can reset passwords automatically by clicking ‘Forgot password’ on the login screen. We wish you all a peaceful break.

Special Interest Groups - Committee Vacancies

Serving on the committee of a Special Interest Group (SIG) puts you at the heart of the Institute's technical leadership.

Help advance a variety of areas across the marine sector by leading a SIG.

SIG committees are responsible for, among other things, ensuring the group has tangible, deliverable outputs and encouraging membership growth of the group and the Institute.

A wide range of SIGs exist, reflecting the depth of knowledge and scale of marine activity that IMarEST members are involved in. You can view the full list here.

What roles are needed?

There are multiple roles required to support the effective work of a SIG committee, and you can find out about all of them in our SIG Handbook.

Honorary Secretary

The Honorary Secretary shares these duties with the SIG Chair. They are reponsible for:

  • Arranging SIG committee meetings, setting the agenda, and ensuring minutes or notes are taken as needed and communicated as appropriate
  • Ensuring the activities of the SIG are communicated to the Technical Leadership Board (TLB) and IMarEST Technical and Policy Team
  • Participating in the activities of and representing the SIG at the TLB

Many of these SIGs are also looking for general Committee Members, who support the Chair and Honorary Secretaries in their SIG work and general administration of the group.

Relaunching dormant SIGs

We are also looking to relaunch some inactive SIGs:

  • Aquaculture
  • Global fisheries
  • Recycling of marine structures
  • Representation of women in the marine industry
  • Ocean governance

If your expertise or interest involves one of the above topics and you'd like to know more, get in touch with the Technical & Policy Team at [email protected].
