Andy Liddell

Andy is an expert in the maritime industry with a background that combines a Master Mariner's credentials with extensive experience across commercial and defence maritime domains.
Beginning his career as a Deck Officer on Container ships trading globally, Andy then moved to the British Antarctic Survey where he played a senior role in the operations of ships and systems in the most challenging of environments.
Joining Defence in 2006 and qualifying as a commercial diver, he assumed the role of Head of Salvage & Marine Operations in 2016. Andy has been responsible for a wide variety of salvage tasks and orchestrated complex marine operations ranging from recovering crashed aircraft to removing oil from WWII shipwrecks.
Andy also holds a master’s degree in maritime law which supports his role in both maritime operations and working with Autonomous systems.
He led the introduction of deep water robotic and autonomous systems in Defence and continues to play a pivotal role in the development of this rapidly changing area of technology. With a strong drive to deliver at pace, he has been instrumental in delivering specialist, commercial off the shelf equipment to front line users.
A recognized leading maritime specialist for UK government, Andy regularly supports other government departments with advice on maritime operations and salvage practices.
