Axel Schlindwein, Directorate Officer, APECS International Directorate
The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) is an international and interdisciplinary organization for early career individuals with interests in polar and alpine regions and the wider cryosphere. It aims to create a network of polar researchers across disciplines and national boundaries to meet, share ideas and experiences, and develop new research directions and collaborations and provide the opportunity for career development for both traditional and alternative polar and cryosphere professions. APECS promotes education and outreach as an integral component of polar research and to inspire future generations of polar researchers.
By facilitating in-person and online capacity building and career development training and disseminating international early career opportunities (e.g. fellowships, representative positions, participation in meetings and conferences), APECS provides a platform for early career professionals interested in engaging with polar research organisations and supports the implementation of member-driven activities and collaborative initiatives.
By participating in projects, APECS increases the involvement of early career professionals and can offer them more opportunities. Currently, APECS is part of the Arctic PASSION project, which aims to help improve the network of environmental observing systems in the Arctic.
This webinar will provide an overview of APECS' current activities and its involvement in Arctic PASSION, introduce opportunities to get involved in the organisation as an early career professional and will give space to discuss potential collaborations in the intersection of polar and marine research.
