Abstract:
The ever-increasing demand for faster production, more automation, and improved system capabilities necessitates larger and more sophisticated systems that involve several challenges to their development. This presentation introduces an approach to enhance the design and analysis of complex marine vessel systems using modern systems engineering techniques, particularly Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) with the formal language of Systems Modeling Language (SysML), and engineering analysis with the Parametric Constraint Evaluator (PCE) tool. Marine vessel development poses several challenges due to its scale, heterogeneity, complexity, and involvement of diverse engineering disciplines. A model-centric methodology redefines traditional systems engineering with a centralized and virtual environment for the design and analysis of complex system of systems (SoS). Case studies and examples will illustrate its application, highlighting the framework's potential to enhance design traceability, reduce development time, and support analysis of system performance in variant configurations.
