About the project:

The IMarEST is undertaking a study on behalf of Defra’s mNCEA programme to evaluate marine mammal monitoring by identifying opportunities for innovation and investment in technologies, methodologies, and data utilisation. With a focus on addressing gaps and leveraging advancements, the project aims to create a sustainable, integrated, and ecosystem-based monitoring framework that meets the growing evidence needs driven by domestic and international policy requirements. By evaluating the current state of marine mammal monitoring, engaging stakeholders, and exploring emerging trends, this initiative will provide actionable recommendations for targeted funding and strategic development. The outcomes will support informed decision-making, enhance data-driven policy evaluation, and contribute to the UK's leadership in marine environmental protection and sustainable use.
