Commander Mike Davies' talk is entitled 'Ice Patrol – HMS Endurance in the Antarctic', in which he will discuss the role of the Royal Navy in supporting the British Antarctic Survey and wider UK interests in the South Atlantic.

About the Speaker

Mike Davies is a Chartered Marine Engineer with over 40 years of experience in the power and marine engineering industries.

He was fortunate enough to have a parallel career as an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve, rising to the rank of Commander. His final appointment was as Commanding Officer of HMS Forward, the Royal Naval Headquarters in the Midlands.

In the course of that career, he spent a considerable time at sea as Officer of the Watch in a variety of ships including minesweepers and survey vessels, culminating in a period of Full Time Reserve Service in HMS Endurance.

Married with two adult sons and three grandchildren, the family home is in the village of Narborough in Leicestershire where he has lived for over 35 years.

He enjoys the opportunity to entertain people whilst 'spreading the word' about the Royal Navy.

Commander Davies has not asked for a fee for this presentation, but any donation to a maritime charity would be welcomed.

If you wish, you can donate to the IMarEST's partner charity, the Guild of Benevolence, here.
