About the event:

During this hybrid event the IMarEST WA Branch will be hosting a short in person and online presentation about finding shipwrecks in the 21st century – using open data and 3D photogrammetry.

There are more than a thousand shipwrecks in Western Australia – but only 300 have ever been found. In this presentation I will:

  • Present the discovery of several historic wrecks, made through systematic review of seafloor data and historical records.
  • Demonstrate the underwater photogrammetry techniques we have used to model dozens of wreck sites in challenging conditions.
  • Discuss how this new information is being mobilised to protect and understand these significant archaeological sites.
