Abstract:
Due to the increased complexity of today’s shipping world, “smarter” and “self-diagnostic” solutions are in high demand to reduce the workload of personnel while keeping the safety level at the highest possible standard. One representative of this group of next generation systems is the SMARTSHIP POWERBUS from HOPPE Marine. It is a valve remote control system designed to enhance operation and safety on board.
The system design enables high system availability, even in critical situations, by automized failure detection and isolation. It offers four versatile inputs per valve, configurable as standard 4-20mA or digital input, to ease up data collection and processing. The dual redundant serial ring bus architecture ensures continuous operability, automatically rerouting data even if a bus or Local Processing Unit (LPU) fails. The system maintains functionality despite short circuits in the power bus, preserving the operability of the remaining components.
The safety concept includes two identical cabinets operating in parallel with identical software. If one fails, the other seamlessly assumes control via the ring bus. Additionally, the system features a triple power supply input (MSB, ESB, and UPS), ensuring robust and reliable performance. The first references verified that significant installation costs and reduced commissioning time savings can be expected too.
