About the presentation:

Container losses while at sea are a continuing hazard in world shipping resulting in financial losses for shippers and insurers. In some circumstances the loss of containers causes an environmental impact such as the 2009 case of the Pacific Adventurer in Queensland. In this presentation, Dr Kieran Dodworth sets out some of the lessons he has learned from his extensive experience in container losses and sets out weaknesses in the regulatory framework. Dr Dodworth’s focus is on lesser known features of container stack behaviour which he considers to be one of the most complex structures in the marine environment.
