Location: Room 004, IMC, Warwick University, Coverntry, CV4 7EZ

Speaker: Dr. David Croft, Assistant Professor, WMG

About the event:

This Lecture follows on from a short presentation Professor Croft gave on a visit organised by the IMarEST Midlands Branch to the Bhattacharyya Building at Warwick University last summer.

This lecture talks about “V2x” (Vehicle 2 Everything) connectivity in vehicles which offers the potential for dramatic improvements in vehicular safety, automation and expanded functionality. While questions and challenges remain, common standards have been developed to enable vehicular communications.

However, in addition to the many benefits, the increased connectivity increases the threats posed to vehicles in the cybersecurity domain. To this end, cyber security remains a threat which needs an in-depth consideration. The lecture is of relevance to Marine applications with regards to aspects concerning ship navigation communication and can help to develop a similar navigation system for sea-going vessels.
