About the presentation:
IMO and EU are spearheading the drive to reduce greenhouse gas emission from shipping. In line with this, the maritime industry is gearing up to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by around 2050. Stringent environmental regulations are in the offing, and consequently, GHG emissions from ships will become a cost factor, and therefore strategically reducing GHG emissions from ships is crucial. Our industry is already implementing several energy efficiency improvements, but these may not be sufficient to fully achieve the IMO and EU goals. Thus, the essential adoption of alternative fuels with lower environmental impact are becoming a necessity. A wide variety of alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia and biofuels will soon be available to be selected based on factors such as ship type, size and route. The technical aspects and the overall trend of alternative fuels including fuel availability and cost projections, with particular emphasis on biofuels, are detailed in the presentation. The characteristics, measures for the safe use as well as the regulatory regime of biofuels are also discussed here.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Certificates will be available at the end of the meeting for all attendees if requested.
