We're proud to support the UN Ocean Decade (2021–2030), a global initiative dedicated to advancing ocean science and sustainable development.
It is currently the largest international programme of its kind, led by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, and involves governments, international organisations, scientific institutions, NGOs, and the private sector worldwide.
How does the IMarEST support the UN Ocean Decade?
With formal recognition through IMO consultative status and special consultative status with ECOSOC, we play a role in shaping global marine and maritime governance.
We provide informed, impartial advice on marine policy and regulation to ensure that existing and emerging activities are safe, technically sound, environmentally responsible, and economically viable.
We play a key role by aligning our activities with the aims of the Ocean Decade through supporting policy development, engaging our global membership, and capacity building programmes.
